Karina Carvalho began her career in Perth after graduating from the WA Academy of Performing Arts as a broadcast major.
She decided to head overseas to London to gain more experience.
She secured a position with the BBC and worked for BBC World News and the HARDtalk program as a producer.
After London, Karina headed back to Australia and began work at ABC News in Perth as a TV and radio reporter.
She was soon appointed as the 7pm News presenter in WA, a role she stayed in for 3.5 years before co-presenting the ABC’s national News Breakfast program from Melbourne. In April 2013, she moved to Brisbane to read the 7pm News for ABC Queensland.
Karina is one of the country’s few solo women readers in prime time.
Karina is a huge sports fan, with rugby and cricket her two favourites. She’s also passionate about the arts, and loves attending the ballet and the theatre.
Karina was born in Sri Lanka and moved to Australia with her family as a young child to escape the violence of the country’s bloody civil war.
